Being mindful is not only important for maintaining a life balance, but it allows you to refocus on a creative scale for further efficiency. Practicing mindfulness with a friend is actually a decent way to boost yourself! This is also a remarkable bonding practice, as interaction is equally important in my opinion. Here are some great methods if you are looking to practice mindfulness with a friend.
1) Yoga Retreat
Yoga and meditation are both fantastic in terms of rediscovering your senses and creativity. Making an event of it is even more motivating! There are actually a few retreats in California that I think would be cool to try for a weekend getaway. Having a peaceful weekend of reawakening would likely make for an intellectual adventure. If you aren’t looking to jet off anywhere, attending a yoga class locally would work too.
2) Tech-free Outing
Recently, a close friend and I discovered that shifting away from our typical coffee outings elevated our conversation and experience. We put our devices away for a few hours, and try to select more inspiring places. Think artisan cocktail bars, secret cafes and quiet brunch spots. It might sound like just another hang-out, but we found that investing in new experiences, cultures and places inspired our conversations in a more mindful direction.
3) Nature Walks
I included this, as I recently took a beautiful forest walk that blew my mind. My partner and I walked in silence, and let our minds absorb the fresh mountain air, and the gorgeous scenery. This is especially great for dissolving tension, which then allows for the mindfulness to flow. If you are looking to practice mindfulness with a friend, I recommend opting for a less-travelled route. Maybe even throw some photography in there!
I feel like the hot new thing is coloring. I’ve seen coloring books for adults, and even coloring classes! The whole concept is to eliminate stress, relax and analyze what you are trying to convey through your artwork. This process is said to be very enlightening, and productive for trying to be mindful. If you are looking to practice mindfulness with a friend in a different way, paint nights are also said to be relaxing.
5) Plan Impulsively
One of the best ways to practice mindfulness is to let life take you where you least expect. I admit that I’m bad at this, as I usually like thing pre-planned. However, if you can get past this, sometimes the most random adventures are the greatest.
6) Immerse Yourself
With all of the responsibilities of adulthood – or adolescence for the 11% of you that Google Analytics reminds me of every so often – its crucial to take a moment. Are you going out to find the best tacos in the city? Savor every single bite. Think out the flavors. Attending a local comedy show? Listen deeper, and even observe those around you. Going to a museum? Think it all through. Contemplate the eras and how that could be impacted by the historical context. Taking that additional time to appreciate everything that takes place in front of you is a fantastic way to practice mindfulness with a friend.
