Whether you’re a blogger, brand or marketing professional, search engine traffic is a requirement for a strong website. You can have the best content within your niche, but if it is not delivered and exercised in the proper way, you could be missing out on major engagement! SEO is what gets you visibility, high-quality traffic and brand recognition. Neglecting this piece of the puzzle is definitely not the way to go.
I decided to compose a list of healthy tactics to ensure that you get your best shot at healthy growth and engagement for your blog or website – some of these methods I have learned from experience, while others are recent points that I have discovered in my own research.
1) Social Media Boosts Your Searchability
Despite Google being all confidential and quiet over their algorithms, it has been confirmed that social media presence has some influence in search engine traffic. Impact Brand and Design states that many brands have reported a traffic spike upon increasing social media presence. Additionally, “76% of marketers use social media to support and boost SEO” (2014). Quick tip – if you didn’t have social media sharing buttons on your posts before, implement these when you can to increase sharing. You’d be surprised at how many bloggers have not made this simple switch.
2) Try Making or Increasing Video Content
According to Quicksprout, high-quality video content can get organic page ranks that are fifty times better than the results for plain, static text. This is definitely something to think about when it comes to search engine traffic, but I wouldn’t put effort into making a sloppy video for this simple fact. Explore your options, and maybe collaborate with someone skilled in this realm if you aren’t (I know I’m not!). Remember, the whole point is getting recognized as a high-quality website and brand. Quick tip – according to Hubspot, viewers are 64% more likely to trust a brand (or blog) upon consuming high-quality video content.
3) Keyword Optimization is Key
This was one area that I couldn’t wrap my head around for the longest time. Like so what, I mention the same words a few extra times? Cool…
But no! It is more than this. Finding the right keywords can factor into where you fall in terms of search. You can use the Google Keyword Search function to determine your best matches for boosting search engine traffic. Online Income Teacher states that it is crucial to find keywords that are very popular searches, but also those that are less popular in competition. This is because highly competitive keywords indicate a large need for this search being fulfilled by copious amounts of content; with so much content geared towards this, how will your content stand out? The less competitive keywords with high search results will help you to pop up in more advanced searches. A quick tip for beginners – try to focus on your title – you want it to be eye-catching, but does it also convey pieces of what your article is about?
4) Make Consistency a Priority
Great content is always a must, but great content on a consistent basis will get you closer to where you want to be where search engine traffic is concerned. Daily Blog Tips states that this should be one of the more important parts of your strategy, as even a less experienced website with less emphasis on keyword optimization or backlinks can rank high as a result of consistent and high-quality content. Quick Tip – When I started The Liminal Network, the biggest shift in growth that I witnessed was moving from posting every few days to posting fresh content on the daily. If you can make this work in your schedule, I definitely recommend daily posting, or on every second day.
5) Increase your Back linking
What is a backlink, and what does it do? Well, do you remember in school, when the teacher or professor would ask you to cite or link your sources? Same deal, really. Except this is for your work, and not some ratty encyclopedia from the ‘90s. You want your work to be linked in the work of others, as Google places priority on content of high-quality. The more that your website is linked elsewhere, the better your search engine traffic will be. So how do you do this? One option is guest posts. Try to aim for popular publications that will feature your link, and you should see a steady increase in traffic as you continue to guest post. Quick tip – this is also a decent way to build connections with editors and CEOs!
6) Put Aside Time for the Gritty Stuff
As many of you know, I started this brand for several reasons, but was also excited to be writing more often, as I’d taken a six-month break. However, I became very thankful for my previous background in marketing and PR when I realized just how much time was to be spent on the gritty, behind-the-scenes crap. You know, the focus time on social media growth, networking, SEO boosts, and tactics that would make my analytics more attractive, and insure our content was actually being read and engaged with. One cannot expect efficient search engine traffic by simply ignoring it. Quick tip – great content will not be read if you are not focused on properly marketing your material and website. See below for an approximate glimpse at how we break down our strategy.
